Sundress Obsessed

Yesterday I wore a cream and grey striped sundress that I bought last year. The weather was in the 80s and the sun was shining bright and hot.
After I put on the sundress, I looked in my closet and thought to myself, I need more sundresses.
Seriously, they’re comfy and cute, and can be appropriate attire in numerous situations.
So, with a shopping budget in mind, I headed over to Target. What did I find?
SUNDRESSES GALORE!
I piled sundress after sundress on my arm and headed for the fitting room.
After narrowing down my choices, I headed to the check out and left with five fabulous new sundress additions to my wardrobe.
Here are my new goodies, and also some tips for sundress shopping:The Sundresses 2013

Sundress Tip #1: Do purchase a sundress with a pretty print. The design can be anything from a pattern of shapes to artsy, canvas-like flowers. Here are my “pretty print” picks:

Sundresses Pretty PrintsSundress Tip #2: Select a sundress that has a floral design. I picked a floral print that was complimented with bright colors. (BONUS: Add a ‘tee shirt’ style sundress to your wardrobe!)
Of all the dresses I bought yesterday, this one is my favorite:

Sundress Tip #3: You know how every woman needs a little black dress? Yeah, she needs a little black sundress, too:

Sundress Tip #4: The inspiration for my sundress shopping trip was based on a casual cream and grey striped sundress that was easy to throw on, that being said, seek out your favorite casual sundress. I love stripes, they are so casual and the color schemes can give you lots of versatility when matching accessories, I opted for a dress flaunting a neutral grey and a bright pink:

So, ladies, have I inspired you? Are you plotting your sundress trip right now? Did you make it to the end of this post, or are you already at the store?
Again, all of the above sundresses are from Target.
Do you see a favorite?

A TIGHT SQUEEZE

It’s swimsuit season (almost)! Gulping? Grinning? Couldn’t care less? Whatever you’re thinking and feeling, it’s the truth. Summer is just around the corner and that means a lot of people have been sprinting to the gym and cutting back calories and portions to get beach fabulous.

How journalistic did that sound? I smirked a bit after I typed and then re-read what I typed. Still smirking now. Smirk. Smirk. Smirk… Okay, so getting to the point of this post…

At all times, I like to look good (especially this time of year) and feel good. Who doesn’t? In fact, I  always want to be that way,  so I need to take care of my health. That means hitting the gym and also eating a healthy diet. I usually don’t have a problem with the gym, as I enjoy working out. I do have a problem with the diet. I enjoy pizza, fries, sweets galore, and more (I rhymed!), but lately I have been making moves to eliminate an excessive amount of “bad for you foods” from my diet, as well as incorporating in more and more healthier food options. Which brings me to this:

FreshSqueezedOJ

About two years ago, I was a hostess at a breakfast restaurant and their menu offered fresh squeezed orange juice. Now, I was never new to drinking fresh squeezed OJ, but I didn’t have the convenience of it as I did at work. I ended up hooked on the freshness of the OJ, and Tropicana, Minute Maid, and the like haven’t been the same since. In fact, the taste of carton OJ is terrible in comparison.

Now, about that photo. I’ve begun to add more freshly squeezed juices into my diet. My favorites are orange and grapefruit juice, and I want to add in more. Here’s a fun fact for ya, grapefruit juice aids in speeding up the metabolism. What do you know about juicing? Or, do you have any tasty recipes?

On top of the juicing, I am committing myself to more veggies. Remember when you were a kid and an adult made eating veggies easy because that’s what you were served? My mom is very much into eating fruits and vegetables, so when I was a child and even an adolescent it was no problem taking down the stuff. Now that I’m an adult, it’s tough taking charge of my diet. It’s so easy to constantly pop open a bag of a salty snack and reach for a chocolate bar… but those are terrible habits that can end up dominating a lifestyle. Of course, it’s okay to have a treat on occasion, but to eat healthy, those goodies must be limited. So I’m focusing on planning more meals, setting aside time to prepare healthier options, and definitely down lots of leafy greens. Look good. Feel good. Be beautiful. Stay beautiful.

Let me know if you have any tasty recipes! Motivators! Tips! Share your comments below.

Letter from a Mother to her Daughter

The letter below is absolutely beautiful and inspiring!

The letter was originally written in Spanish by Guillermo Pena, but the English version was translated by Sergio Cadena, CEO & Founder of Spring in the Air. With Mother’s Day nearing, I felt it is appropriate to share this though provoking writing piece with you:

Letter from a Mother to her Daughter

”My dear girl, the day you see I’m getting old, I ask you to please be patient, but most of all, try to understand what I’m going through. If when we talk, I repeat the same thing a thousand times, don’t interrupt to say: “You said the same thing a minute ago”… Just listen, please.

Try to remember the times when you were little and I would read the same story night after night until you would fall asleep. When I don’t want to take a bath, don’t be mad and don’t embarrass me. Remember when I had to run after you making excuses and trying to get you to take a shower when you were just a girl?

When you see how ignorant I am when it comes to new technology, give me the time to learn and don’t look at me that way… remember, honey, I patiently taught you how to do many things like eating appropriately, getting dressed, combing your hair and dealing with life’s issues every day… the day you see I’m getting old, I ask you to please be patient, but most of all, try to understand what I’m going through.

If I occasionally lose track of what we’re talking about, give me the time to remember, and if I can’t, don’t be nervous, impatient or arrogant. Just know in your heart that the most important thing for me is to be with you. And when my old, tired legs don’t let me move as quickly as before, give me your hand the same way that I offered mine to you when you first walked. When those days come, don’t feel sad… just be with me, and understand me while I get to the end of my life with love.

I’ll cherish and thank you for the gift of time and joy we shared. With a big smile and the huge love I’ve always had for you, I just want to say, I love you… my darling daughter. “

Letter from a Mother to her Daughter

With Mother’s Day this Sunday, what are you planning? How do you show mom that you’re thankful for all she has done? Don’t forget to share this special post!

Oh, and just because, here are some of my favorite photos of me and my little princess:

THE WHITE STRIPES

White StripesWhite Stripes 1White Stripes 3White Stripes 4

Top (Forever 21) | Jeans (Pac Sun) | Sunglasses (Forever 21, in Silver/Grey) Sandals (Vince Camuto: Similar)
Linked Bracelet (Charming Charlie) | Silver Bangle (Old) | Ring (Charming CharlieEarrings (Forever 21) | Necklace (Forever 21)
Lipstick (“Coralberry by Revlon) | Nail Color (“Lunch at the Dehli” by OPI)

This outfit is very much an everyday look for me. I love a pair of skinny jeans, a basic or casual tee, and some comfortable shoes. Speaking of comfort, the top I have on is ridiculously comfortable- I could sleep in it! The skinnys I’m wearing are from one of my favorite places to find blue jeans. Because we cannot forget about the shoes, I must tell my story of “shoe love at first sight.” I bought those pretty sandals on a whim because the silver bow is adorably different, and the shoe color popped out at me so vividly. Although the color is a unique minty blue, I know I’ll be able to pair the sandals with a lot of different outfits this summer. Overall, my favorite part about this look is that I can rock it in a variety of places (restaurants, shopping trips, bars, barbecues, almost anywhere!) and at different times of day.

Outfit notes/tips:
• Tuck a flowing top into a pair of jeans for a casually polished look.
• Cuff the bottoms of longer skinnys to flaunt cute shoes!

Tell me: what is your “go-to” or “everyday look?” What’s your favorite part of the outfit I wore? I look forward to reading input!

WHO’S WEARING CRANBERRY IN THE SPRING?

This post is making me smile. I’m really liking blogging. I like being able to share moments in my life when I have the opportunity to sit down and type.

I like to start my weekends as early as possible. Of course, I have a second job as a server, and at least one night out of my weekend is spent working…so what is a weekend really? I like to define nights, somewhere near Saturday, that are spent having fun with friends and family as the weekend (nights like Monday and Tuesday? Yeah, those don’t count. I can still have fun, but I know those are definite substitute teaching days). This past week, my weekend started on Thursday  night. My daughter had a “Spring Sing” concert for her music class. My daughter is in first grade, and she sang along with approxomately 100 of her fellow classmates. They sang songs such as “Rain Drops are Falling on my Head” and “Here Comes the Sun.”
It was 25 minutes of pure adorable!

Here’s a photo of my pretty girl dressed for the spring theme:

A at the spring sing

After the spring sing, I went out with a group of friends. A restuarant and bar near me had a special on their martinis. The place had a dance floor, so my friends and I had quite an amusing evening dancing around, munching on appetizers, and enjoying a couple of drinks. And yes, if you’ve been following my blog posts, you’ll know that I failed the challenge I set for myself, read about it here. That’s okay though, I can always try again.

That brings us to Friday and Saturday, and the relevance to the title of this post. I spent half of the “official” weekend doing some serious closet organizing. When the seasons drastically change, I pack away one wardrobe and pull out another.

Here are my tips to you for organizing your closet and getting it ready for a new season:

Organize your closet

1. Laundry time! Wash everything.

2. Take a hard look at your closet. What tops or skirts (any items) are hanging out in there that you haven’t worn in a year, or longer? Chances are, you won’t wear them again- remove those items from your closet. These items may be sold to resale shops such as Plato’s Closet or donated to places such as Goodwill.

3. Is there anything else in your closet that you purchased but no longer desire to wear? Again, sell or donate (or, see if a friend or family member wants it)!

4. if you have a larger wardrobe, switch up what stays inside your closet depending on seasonal changes. Neatly store half of your wardrobe in storage bags or bins in places such as: underneath your bed, in a separate closet, or in other storage places around your home.

Tips on what needs to be put away between the seasons:

• Sweaters, sweats, heavy coats, boots, hats, gloves, and scarves should be put away until the weather cools down.
• Certain colors tend to be seasonal, popular colors in fall and winter are cranberry, burnt orange, forest green, mustard, etc. Put clothing in those colors away.
• Likewise, certain clothing cuts (turtlenecks) and materials (wool, corduroy) are commonly worn during the colder months.

5. Once you have your clothing divided up (what you’re keeping for the new season, what you’re storing away, and what you’re giving away) focus on how to make your closet convenient for you. I like to hang most of my clothes. So, any tops, skirts, and dresses that I would wear outside of the house are on hangers. I fold my jeans. Some people like to organize their closets by colors or clothing styles. I organize my closet by occasion. Currently, my closet is sectioned off with: clothes for a night out, sundresses, business casual, tanks, simple tees, nicer tees, jeans, leggings, shorts, etc.

6. After you’ve set up your closet (don’t forget about the shoes!), pack away what you won’t be wearing until the next season, and load up your car with what you’re giving away.

Clothes to give away

After my start-of-weekend cleanup, I relaxed on Sunday. The weather was beautiful, so my daughter and I decorated the driveway and some of the sidewalks with beautiful chalk art.

Here’s a goofy photo of the driveway:Chalk art in spring

On Sunday night, a group of girl friends came over. We munched on nachos and orangesicle cupcakes, and sipped on margaritas and piña coladas. Delicious!
What did you do with your weekend? Leave your comments below! xO!
